Am I Accepting New Clients?:- Appointment in two to four weeks
Yes
Background: I have been a therapist since my mid-twenties. You might think that after almost 30 years I’d tire of the job, but helping others make sense and build positive meaning out of their lives remains my passion. Before going into independent practice I worked in two college counseling centers and several mental health agencies. My bachelor's is in Human biology (Stanford); my master's and PhD are in Counseling Psychology (University of Oregon).
Treatment areas: I can help with a wide array of concerns including: depression, anxiety, family or relationship issues, trauma, loss, eating/body image problems, and difficulty making life decisions and achieving goals. I build a collaboration that draws on the best of my clients and the best of my expertise. My goal is to help clients define and meet their own goals, which usually include understanding themselves better and learning to live in ways that turn down personal distress and turn up satisfaction and fulfillment.
Therapy approaches: I match the therapy tools I have expertise with to client needs. Approaches include: emotional processing, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, gestalt techniques, mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR), guided imagery, mind-body strategies, and trauma desensitization and reprocessing approaches such as EMDR. I want my office to feel like a safe, supportive place. Client satisfaction with the work we do together is my priority.
Length of treatment: The length of therapy treatment varies, depending on problem area and approach taken. Clients might come for 6-12 weekly or bi-monthly sessions and then return as needed. Others use therapy for a longer stretch of time. I have regular office hours, but do not offer evening or weekend appointments. My office is located in downtown Corvallis, with plenty of parking nearby.
If you would like to speak in person, please call my confidential phone line and leave a message with your name and some good times to reach you. If you are planning to use insurance to help cover the costs, let me know what your plan is called. I will return your call as quickly as I’m able--usually within 48 hours.
