Presentation Description
Most clinicians have very little training or experience working with individuals who are diagnosed with autism or other developmental disabilities. Yet, these diagnoses are becoming more common and there is a pressing need for clinicians who can screen for autism and provide therapeutic support. This Eat-Meet-Learn presentation will be an introduction to autism screening and treatment. Learning objectives include:
• Autism screening basics
• Two major indicators that autism may be present
• Two major indicators that may indicate that autism is NOT present
• Three basic skills for working with a client with autism
• How to handle situations when you are “in over your head”
