- socio-cultural context and subjective experience of being trans
- history of the relationship between the trans community and helping professionals
- accommodations and interventions

- interaction between comorbid conditions, trans identity, and the transitioning process

Learning Objectives
By the end of the workshop, participants will:
- Understand sex, gender, gender identity, gender presentation, and sexuality as distinct continua
- Develop awareness of their own beliefs, values, and practices around gender and sexuality
- Understand the beliefs, values, and practices of the trans community
- Understand the history of how transness was viewed outside the trans community, including by mental health professionals
- Be familiar with necessary accommodations and effective interventions in working with trans clients
- Be familiar with the gender transitioning process, and health care professionals’ roles in the process
- Understand how trans identity and the transitioning process interacts with other behavioral health concerns
Jordan Shin, MS, LPC, has been a counselor in private practice in Eugene since 2008. Jordan works primarily with members of the LGBT+ community, and specializes in working with chronic behavioral health concerns, such as posttraumatic stress, bipolar mood, and autism spectrum. Jordan is a member of World Professional Association for Transgender Health, and has worked with over 200 trans clients.
Jordan is currently Behavioral Health Manager at Alliance for Community Wellness, the behavioral health service at HIV Alliance, focused on serving the LGBT+ community, with offices in Eugene, Salem, and Roseburg.
Jordan holds a PhD in Political Science from UC Berkeley, with a specialization in feminist gender theory, which informs much of Jordan’s work.
