Am I Accepting New Clients?:- Keep a waiting list

No
In 40 years' practice as a psychotherapist I have had the privilege to work with a great many people through all sorts of difficulties. I am keenly aware of the trust clients invest when they enter therapy and believe it is my responsibility to stay mindful of the risks they take to explore and grow and change. I never cease to be touched, even awed, by the stories I hear, and the wisdom, and courage I witness in this work.
I have studied and assimilated a great many therapeutic tools over the years but come to believe it is the relationship that matters the most. In this spirit I avoid labels, and strive to meet each new individual with an open mind as to what will be most helpful.
I would describe the work I engage in as active and dynamic, and as strengths based. Whether working with individuals or couples, I invite curiosity and cultivate self awareness both of one's inner resources and challenges, and how they bring these to their relationships.
Awareness of one's own thought process, emotional states, personal narrative, family dynamics, and somatic experiences are essential for self understanding, and enable people to make the changes they desire. The ability to calm and soothe oneself, to tune in to one's own experience, to come to terms with and accept inevitable disappointments, and to cultivate safe connection with others are also vital skills for life I aim to facilitate.
I received my Masters in Social Work from the University of Michigan in 1979, and worked at the Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston with families regarding pregnancy and birth complications, and at Benton County Mental Health with teens, families and adults before establishing my private practice in Corvallis.
I currently maintain a part time practice, two days per week, which means my practice is often full. However you are welcome to call and talk with me about your needs. When not working as a therapist I am often in my ceramic studio, or out hiking.
